The management of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) is inviting applications for interested and suitably qualified students (Local and International) for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the 2021 academic year.

How to Apply to the University of Johannesburg

The University of Johannesburg 2021 application can be done in either of two ways: hardcopy or online.

NOTE: Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible in the application cycle. Application opens on 1st April and closes on the 30th of September for undergraduate programmes.

University of Johannesburg Online Application

You may apply online. In order to apply online you will need a working email address and a functional cell phone number, or, if you are an international applicant, your passport number.

You must also have met the requirements to study at the University of Johannesburg (see prospectus).

  • Certified and individually scanned documents if completed Grade 12. Document upload requirements when applying online (not applicable to applicants currently in grade 12 or internal transfer/Senior applicants):
  • All documents must be certified When uploading documents, ensure that the scanned file is a maximum of 512KB, and that all documents are scanned in any of the following types – tiff, pdf, jpg or gif
  • Each document must be scanned and uploaded as separate attachments
  • Alternatively, documents can be emailed to ujappdocs@listsrv.uj.ac.za with the provisional reference/student number noted in the subject line of the email.

Once you’ve completed the online application, you don’t need to send hardcopy application. Hardcopy application is available on campus for those who don’t have access to the internet connection.

The University of Johannesburg Hardcopy Application

The University of Johannesburg paper application forms are available on campus. However, there are two different application forms; one for undergraduate applicants and the other for postgraduates.

Ensure all relevant supporting documents are attached before sending off your application form. There is non – refundable Application Fee R200.00 (only hardcopy application) for the University of Johannesburg admissions.

Important information – New applicants

  • In the case of applicants re-writing Grade 12 subjects, applications will be processed on the current results available. If Grade 12 has been written more than once then your combined results must be submitted with your application.
  • Applicants writing the National Senior Certificate (NSC) through IEB or SACAI examining bodies can apply online by selecting “National Senior Certificate” under the Results Detail page of the online application process.
  • Applicants currently in Grade 12 may be requested to provide certified copies of final Grade 11 results for verification and auditing purposes.
  • Knowing the qualification requirements will avoid disappointment when applying. Therefore, ensure you consult with the 2021 Undergraduate Prospectus when completing your application.
  • The University of Johannesburg will not accept the General Education Development (GED) test for entry into any of its curricular undergraduate qualifications.  The GED is no longer recognised by Universities South Africa (USAf), and is not equivalent to a South African grade 12 (NSC/IEB/SACAI).  Applicants who completed the GED and would like to study towards an undergraduate curricular qualification are advised to register and complete a grade 12 NSC/IEB/SACAI or international equivalent thereof.

Important information – Re-applicants/Transfer applicants/Senior applicants

  • Applicants may only apply for two study choices. These study choices may not be amended once they have been chosen.
  • Applicants already in possession of a UJ student number must use their existing student number when applying.
  • To verify or update your cell number/email details – contact the UJ Call Centre on 011 559 4555.
  • Applicants transferring from another university/tertiary institution are required to declare their previous studies when applying as well as upload a full academic record/transcript and degree/diploma certificate (if applicable). Please refer to “Document upload requirements when applying online” below for more information on uploading of documents.
  • If you forgot your pin then select “Request a PIN” using your existing UJ student number. A PIN will be sent to you via email. Thereafter, login using your student number and PIN provided.

  1. I have a problem of applying the system said my ID number already in exist .I did apply lat year for 2020 .now I want to apply for 2021 ,please help
