The Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) is an institute based at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Its purpose is to promote advanced research in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences beyond regular teaching and research activities that take place at institutions of higher learning. JIAS regularly hosts academic conferences, symposia, seminars and workshops on some of the most important topics in the humanities, as well as the natural and social sciences.
These events are held at our beautiful campus in Westdene, Johannesburg. JIAS offers a diversity of fellowships, which attract emerging and leading scholars who spend anything from a few weeks to a year at the JIAS campus.
Postdoctoral Research Fellowships:
The fellowship is a joint initiative between JIAS and the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) to promote scholarships of the highest standard and quality in the humanities and social sciences. Successful applicants will work with leading scholars and researchers; and will be based primarily at JIAS. The fellowship will be for 12 months.

Must have a PhD in the Humanities and Social Sciences obtained within the last five years.
